Letter to Casavant, from Grace Church Music Committee re 301

This letter is from the Casavant archives. It is dated 28th April, 1908, under the header of the Monarch Life Assurance Company and is signed J.W.W. Stewart, the secretary of the Church's Music Committee. It is recreated with sp. errors intact.

Gentlemen,

Respecting the Grace Church Organ, I beg to advise you that the Committee has formally endorsed the installation of the new instrument and recommended the Trustee board to make a settlement with you.

Respecting our previous correspondence and your letter of the 15th inst., we had Mr. Edwin H. Lemare go over the organ carefully and pronounce his opinion upon it which Mr. Madore will advise you was very favorable indeed. Mr. Madore states that some minor matters which required adjustment, have been attended to.

Grace Methodist Church

The first pipe organ in Grace Methodist Church was installed by S.R. Warren & Son in 1885, but a few years later it had deteriorated to the point of receiving an ultimate insult: "The organ at Grace Church has arrived at that state of perfection when it is difficult to tell it from a circus calliope." When a new three-manual, 34-stop organ was installed by R.S. Williams & Son, Oshawa, in 1894, the decrepit instrument was transferred to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
